4 tips for picking comfy flip-flops

No footwear is perhaps as comfortable as a pair of flip-flops. Whether it is a beach day, or you want to relax around the house, flip-flops are a must-have for ultimate comfort. These are convenient and give your feet much-needed breathing space. However, not all flip-flops are the same. Some flip-flops can cause trouble for your feet. Tripping and slipping are quite common if you pick the wrong pair. Here are a few tips to help you out.

Figure out why you need flip-flops
The pair of shoes you wear for the gym won’t be useful when you go hiking. Similarly, the same pair of flip-flops can’t be used for different activities. Before buying, figure out where you are going to wear them. If you want a beach day pair, it is best to purchace one that can be cleaned easily. For the poolside, you will need a pair that is skid-proof to avoid slipping over puddles of water close to the pool.

Check for comfort
No footwear is worth its price if it’s uncomfortable. Nobody wants blisters, heel pain, cramped metatarsal, or balance issues. The idea of comfort is different for different people. Nonetheless, try to pick flip-flops with better arc support. The ones with the toes slightly curved up are also comfortable. Also, look out for any discomfort caused by the Y-shaped straps.

Pick the right material
The material is often an important factor that separates the good flip-flops from the bad ones. Cheap plastic flip-flops may come in a variety of options in terms of color, patterns, and quirky designs. This may be okay for a couple of hours on the beach. But if you are looking for a pair to wear for a longer duration and something that lasts, pick something sturdier. Leather and fabric are often more comfortable and durable.

Choose the right size
The size and fit for flip-flops may slightly differ from your regular shoes. Pick a size that allows enough room for your feet. A little space must be available at the end of the footbed to prevent the heel from hanging off. A bigger size may cause the foot to slosh around, resulting in strain in small joints and bones of the feet. Go for a pair that gives a bit of a wiggle room since the feet swell in the heat.
