How Each Material Is Made — and Why It Matters

Pressure-treated wood is typically southern yellow pine or a similar softwood that has been infused with chemical preservatives under pressure. The most common modern treatment is ACQ or copper azole, which replaced the older arsenic-based CCA formula phased out for residential use in the early 2000s.
